E-learning : A Challenge or An Opportunity

The whole world is shaken to its core due to the terrifying and perilous impact of COVID-19. Moreover, most of the nations have temporarily shut the educational institutions down in order to contain the Corona virus spread. In India also, all the educational institutions have been closed following the protocol of nationwide lock-down, this has graved the repercussion for the entire student community ranging from school to postgraduates.

According to UNESCO, these nationwide lock-downs has affected over 60% of the globe’s student population. It has also come up with the supporting hands to the countries in their efforts to attenuate the impact of institution closure. As per the UNESCO report, it is estimated that the Covid-19 Pandemic will adversely affect more the 290 million students across the 22 countries and in India the estimate is about 32 crores.

Thus, the government has come up with digitization of education. Multiple technical tools have been introduced by the firms to grasp the opportunity by offering online classes platform for free. Remote learning seems a viable solution for the learners during this pandemic time but not only limited tothis, the E-learning is becoming an attractive and interesting alternative of classroom teaching.

E-learning with its multiple advantages such as it has no physical or regional boundaries, its cost-effectiveness becoming an alternative solution of classroom teaching. However, E-learning has not untouched with some limitations and challenges like physical interactions is usually considered to be as the best way of communication as compared to digital communication.

On one hand where the e-learning technology provides an opportunity for educational institutions to come up with customized learning programs, reaching to world class educators through webinars and providing the inclusive global education which would not have been that possible through conventional classroom leanings, on the other hand In India where nearly 66 % of the populations belongs to rural background it seems an challenging task for the Indian educators to provide the comfortable platforms to the students due to the limited resources and infrastructure in rural areas.Although various firms and organizations are working on it to come over with an optimized solution.

The Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected the education system of India but has also brought up the complete revolution. The “challenge” is now seeming as an “opportunity”.
